2011: KEY
Scores are given for all helms qualifying by racing in two or more
events
Two-thirds of the total races for the season are counted: the discards
allowed by helms completing more than that are bracketted.
Where fewer than two-thirds are completed (21 finishes) the races up to
21 are given a score of 13 (one more than the largest number of entrties
in the series.)
2011 SEASON SUMMARY AND REPORTS
The opening TT event at Bewl Reservoir on
Sunday April 3rd saw Paul Ellis count three wins but with some hard
battling in excellent racing. (Report)
(Some archive Bewl Valley SC photos
here)
We returned to the hospitality and wonderful setting at
Bassenthwaite on 30th April-2 May (Sat-Mon. May Day Bank
Hol.) for the Northern Championships and TT ---with strong easterlies
preventing racing until a final dramatic day's racing. (Photo on Home
Page) Gareth Ede's narrow win over Paul Ellis was hard won, and by the end
of the final race survival was an achievement.

The Catapults joined the two-day Open Event at
Rutland Water SC on 29th-30th
May. (Results and pictures)
John Terry dominated a rugged first day of 5 races in strong SW breezes
but Alastair Forrest had enough in hand to take the event with wins in
the two Sunday races in light winds.
(Race Report)
On 2nd-3rd July Catapults had two good days at
Calshot Sailing Club firstly on Saturday joining the annual
races up to Ashlett Creek and then back (photo here) and then on Sunday
competing in open races. Paul Ellis' event win counting three firsts came after some tight racing in light SW breezes in bright
sunshine (Report and Photos)
23rd-25th July brought one of the season's highlights at
Bala Catamaran Club (Results
here) The "Bala Gala"
brought the anticipated "top three" going head to head, with Paul Ellis
edging out past champion Alex Montgomery, and current TT champion Gareth
Ede close behind in third. Three points covered the first 3, and then
three points covered fourth to sixth, showing how well the racing
unfolded over the "serious" and "fun" events (

Catapults then made the regular return to Carsington Cat Open Meeting
September 24th-25th, where John Terry and Paul Ellis took the first two
podium places in the Open fleet (including three "A" Class and the Dart
18 Ladies Championship) Over two days of moderate SW breezes (just
below trapezing for most) Gareth Ede joined John and Paul in a clear
"top three" after hard racing (close enoiugh to have a different leader
after the first lap in every one of the five races.)
(Reports and
photos)
FINAL EVENTS:
The 2011 TT season finished with great racing at the
Grafham Water Cat Open, October 22-23rd.
Fresh SE breezes let Gareth Ede trapeze to a clear win (counting five
firsts), still needing
to battle John Terry in second, and Paul Ellis in third place.
(Report)
ROUND SHEPPEY RACE;
Saturday Sept 3rd.
ln sunshine and a building SSW, Alastair Forrest
was the only Catapult competing, but met up with Ray Gall from Carsington trying the race for the first time in the Sprint 15 DX.
(Report)
In a
race helping the later starters, Alastair came 15th and Ray 14th on
handicap from 120 starters (and 9th and 8th fastest round in
the mixed cat fleet of 27)
