2020 After the lockdown that struck all
sports in the UK the Catapult racing programme had to be severely
curtailed. The annual Bala Gala was cancelled however a
number of members had planned a holiday there and took to the water as
casual sailors. They had a mixed weather but managed a couple of social
races and had a thoroughly good time.

The
Catapults returned to Bridlington and had their real sea
sailing at the RYYC Bridlington
for the Nationals on 29th-31th August. Day one and the
wind was 'blowing t'dogs off t'leads'.
Day 2 was not showing much promise either but by 4p.m. the force
5 gusting 6 winds had softened but left a very lumpy sea. All
planned races were sailed. Monday, the final day had
very light airs. Two races were sailed. George Evans came into his own
showing exceptional skills in all winds coming away with 5
bullets to take the title of National Champion 2020.

The final event of the year was sailed
at the Grafham Cat Open, October 17th-18th. This finished the
season, again sharing the course with the Sprint 15s and this year the
Dart 18 single handed fleet with some double handers included. This made
for some tricky sailing as the Sprints and Darts, though sailing the
same course, take different routes downwind making for some close
shaves.

The forecast was for very light winds all weekend. The race officer took
the decision to run 4 races on Saturday which proved to be the correct
decision as there was not enough wind to race on the Sunday. John and
Garath fought it out in all races with only seconds between them with
close racing across the whole fleet.

Because of the shortened season it was agreed by the committee not to
award the 2020 Jon Montgomery TT Series trophy, nor the
the annual handicap trophy. We are all hoping for a fuller and
successful 2021 season with the new programme issued.
